Heart Health

Most people are aware that improving diet and exercising can help maintain a healthy heart and prevent heart disease. However, did you know that mind-body practices are just as crucial in managing heart health?

Chronically high stress, high demanding lifestyle, anxiety, and depression are signs of a dysregulated nervous system. This impairs the immune system, increasing inflammation in the tissues and organs of the body.

Do you often feel that you are:

  • Highly stressed

  • Pushing yourself to get things done

  • Struggling with sleep and feeling exhausted

  • Getting sick frequently

  • Always on the go

This is a sign that your nervous system is out of balance resulting in wear and tear of the bodily systems.

This same dysregulated nervous system controls the activity of your cardiovascular system, influencing blood pressure, cholesterol levels, the constriction or dilation of arteries, and atherosclerosis.

To help regulate your nervous system, consider incorporating mind-body practices into your daily routine, such as:

  • Yoga, Tai Chi, Chi gong (sign up with yoga studios locally or online)

  • Mindfulness

  • Meditation (many apps can guide you)

  • Walking or spending time in nature, aka forest bathing

  • Playing and having fun!

  • A moment of sitting and doing nothing

  • Journaling

For additional support in identifying the limiting thoughts and behaviors that contribute to this dysregulation, working with a licensed counselor or therapist can be incredibly beneficial.

Herbal medicine and nutrients are additionally effective in managing & restoring healthy heart functions!

To address the deeper emotional and spiritual aspects of heart disease, mind-body medicine integrated with shamanic healing can be transformative in restoring regulated nervous system for a healthier heart.
